Indy was a 6 year old spayed female Airedale Terrier whom I had seen since she was a pup.  She had been diagnosed with a cervical fibrosarcoma at the vet school after biopsies and CT scans, and it was huge, extending from her ear to her shoulder, pushing her esophagus and trachea to the left, wrapping around her facial nerves and causing right-sided facial paralysis.  I gave the owners Wei Qi Booster and Stasis Breaker to begin before the first TCVM appointment.

A Fire-Wood constitution dog, she was challenging to examine and acupuncture, but she showed me her greasy purple tongue and was able to palpate her slippery on left, wiry on right pulses, hot ears and nose and notice Qi deficiency on the right side of her face.  I diagnosed her with Phlegm/Blood stasis and Qi deficiency locally, and treated her with dry needles at GV-20 and HT-7 for calming, Bai Hui, ST-36 and BL-21 for Qi deficiency, GB-34, LIV-3 for relieving stagnation, ST-40 to dispel Phlegm, and BL-23 to cool/ promote Yin.  I also recommended a homecooked diet of catfish, tofu and vegetables, tui-na using mo-fa on the clockwise on the carpal pad (since I couldn’t acupuncture HT-9 which would be the control point for LI, on which meridian the tumor was located).

The tumor was significantly smaller by the next appointment in 2 weeks, when she began a half dose of Cervical Formula, and in 2 months had disappeared.  She received a total of 4 acupuncture treatments, and 2 years later there is no sign of recurrence.
