Two doors: er-yin, or er-men
-- By Dr. Shen Xie
These refer to the anus and
vulva/penis. The anus is called hou-yin or hou-men, meaning
back door, while vulva and penis are called qian-yin or qian-men,
meaning front door. They are both dominated by the Kidney Qi.
GV-1 and CV-1 are located near er-yin and can be used for deficiency
of kidney. During the practice of traditional Qi-gong, the practitioner
is told to held his or her er-yin as AFive zang organs store
essences and do NOT drain@. Kidney stores Jing.
As er-yin is the door located
in the lower jiao, it can be used for clearance of the pathogenic
factors including six evil Qi. It is one of the TCM pathways
for the body to get rid of the pathogens. For example, Rheum
Da Huang is commonly used to open the back door (hou-yin) to
clear heat and heat-toxin. Akebia Mu Tong is commonly used to
open the front door to drain damp-heat.
Three Nasal Points: bi-san-xue
-- By Dr. Shen Xie
Three nasal acupuncture points
have been found effective for treatment of nasal discharge and
nasal congestion. They include LI-20, Bi-tong and Yi-tang. Bi-tong
is located 1 cun dorsal to LI-20. Yi-tang is the midpoint between
the eyebrow.
Disconnection between Kidney
and Heart: Xin Shen Bu Jiao Xin Shen Bu Jiao -- By Dr. Shen
Xie
According to the Five Elements,
the Heart belongs to Fire and the Kidney belongs to Water. The
Heart fire will easily be excessive and transfer into pathogenic
Heat if there is no cooling system. On the other hand, the Kidney
water will easily become the pathogenic cold if there is no
warming system. The pair water and fire has the yin-yang relationship,
i.e, inter-supporting and inter-controlling each other. In physiological
conditions, Heart fire and kidney water should be connected
and reinforced each other. The Heart fire should go down to
warm the kidney while the kidney water should rise up to cool
down the Heart. This physiological process is called AXin Shen
Xiang Jiao@, meaning Connection between Heart and Kidney. If
the Heart and Kidney does not connect each other, it is called
Xin Shen Bu Jiao.
Xin Shen Bu Jiao is a common
problem in clinic. Because of disconnection between Kidney and
Heart, there are too much fire/heat in the heart (the upper
jiao) or/and too much cold in the Kidney (the lower jiao). Symptoms
include hyperactive personality, restlessness, insomnia, ulcers
in the tongue, weakness and coldness in the back and hidlimbs.
The TCM treatment strategy for this problem is to tonify (warm)
kidney and clear (cool) heart fire. Acupuncture points Kid 3
and HT 7 can be selected. The herbal formula Jiao-tai-wan consisting
of Coptis Huang Lian and Cinnamon Rou Gui is designed for this
problem. Coptis can clear heart fire and Cinnamon can warm kidney
yang.
